# Skill: BD Engine

A business development engine for recruitment agency owners. Describe your client niche in one paragraph, get back 50-100 fit-criteria companies with the right decision-maker at each and a custom email per contact.

---

## How to build this skill in Claude Code

1. Open **Claude Code** inside the Claude App (Mac / Windows) or Antigravity.
2. In your project folder, create this path: `.claude/skills/bd-engine/`
3. Inside that folder, create a file named `SKILL.md`
4. Paste this entire document into that file and save.
5. Connect the tools (next section).
6. Reload Claude Code so it picks up the new skill.
7. Invoke with `/bd-engine` followed by your brief.

---

## Connect the tools

This skill uses two tools.

**Apollo** — companies + decision-makers + verified emails
- In Claude Code, type `/mcp`
- Add Apollo from the list, or paste their MCP URL
- Sign in with your Apollo account

**Apify** — web research for the personalisation signals
- Get your API key from apify.com (Settings → Integrations → API)
- In Claude Code, type `/mcp` and add Apify
- Paste your API key when prompted

Don't have accounts yet?
- apollo.io — free tier
- apify.com — free $5/month credit

## How to invoke

Two modes.

**Mode A · MPC (place a specific candidate)**
```
/bd-engine here is the candidate CV: [paste CV]
target: 100 companies who would hire this profile
```

**Mode B · Niche brief (build a market map)**
```
/bd-engine niche: [paste 1-paragraph ICP brief]
target: 50 decision-makers across fit-criteria companies
```

---

## What the skill does

**Mode A · MPC**
1. Reads the CV — extracts strengths, niche, seniority
2. Builds the ICP for who would hire this person
3. Pulls 100 matching companies via Apollo
4. Identifies the decision-maker at each
5. Drafts a personalised email per company referencing the candidate's specific fit

**Mode B · Niche brief**
1. Parses your ICP brief
2. Pulls fit-criteria companies via Apollo
3. Surfaces decision-makers (CEO, COO, President — never HR if your brief excludes them)
4. Pulls signal data (recent acquisition, new opening, executive change, growth)
5. Drafts a custom email per contact grounded in that signal

Output: a Google Sheet ready for Instantly + HeyReach.

---

## The Inclusion Gate (CRITICAL)

To enter any outreach campaign, a target row MUST have BOTH:

1. At least one contact channel (email or LinkedIn)
2. A custom 1-2 line hook referencing something specific about that company or contact

Missing either, drop the row. Never fabricate data.

---

## Voice rules for the custom hook

- Reference one specific thing about the company — recent funding, new property, named executive change, growth signal, recent post
- One sentence, max two
- No "I came across your impressive company"
- No flattery — make it feel like you actually researched

Good: "Saw Modus is hitting +15% growth this year and lifestyle is pulling so much of that. The bottleneck I usually see at this stage is Director of Revenue Management. Two strong RM directors on my bench from comparable lifestyle portfolios."

Bad: "I came across Modus and was very impressed with what you're building. Would love to discuss our recruitment services."

---

## Credit discipline

- Apollo company search is free per call. Apollo enrichment is 1 credit per record.
- Only enrich rows that pass the inclusion gate (have a hook).
- Default cap: 50 enriched contacts per BD run.
- Test runs default to 10 contacts.
